The long-term incumbent, Michael O’Brien, is retiring and the Liberal Party has chosen Amelia Hamer as its replacement candidate. Hamer ran unsuccessfully as the Liberal candidate for the federal seat of Kooyong in 2025.

There has never been a better time to stand as an independent for Malvern.

We are a grassroots community group in the Malvern State Electorate, working together to support a genuinely local, community minded candidate for the upcoming Victorian state election.

The goal of Voices of Malvern is to support a candidate who will be a strong, independent voice for the people of Malvern someone who listens to the community and is not beholden to a party or party policy.

We value integrity, transparency, accountability, and genuine local representation, and we want our candidate to reflect these values in both words and actions.

We invite expressions of interest from people who:

  • Have a real connection to the Malvern community.
  • Are committed to listening to and representing the diversity of views across the Malvern Electorate.
  • Are prepared to act with honesty, fairness, and transparency.
  • Are willing to work collaboratively with local residents, volunteers, and community groups.

You do not need to have held political office before. We are more interested in your values, your connection to the community, and your capacity to represent Malvern

  • Expressions of Interest open: 1st June
  • EOI closing date: 25 June
  • Interviews: Late June
  • Candidate selection:  Early July
  • Read the Malvern Charter (see below)
  • Review the Candidate Criteria (see below), and formulate a detailed response to each item including all your strong points.
  • Complete the candidate questionnaire in full. The items in the questionnaire align to the criteria so you can enter your prepared responses.
